USA Weekend’s Make a Difference Day – Volunteer

Make-a-Difference-Day-USA-weekend

www.USAweekend.com

Would you be willing to make a difference for someone else, if only for a day? On October 27, making a difference will be what many colleges, communities, corporations and individuals will be doing as part of the 22nd annual Make a Difference Day. This is the largest day of volunteering in the nation, all about improving someone else’s life through volunteer work such as food drives, park cleanups and more.

This day of volunteering is for everybody no matter how young and old, anyone can carry out a volunteer project that will impact others. Take a look around your community and see what needs are not being met. Are there hungry or homeless people? Are schools and parks being neglected? Whatever void you see, don’t be afraid to fill it.

One way you can make a difference in someone’s life would be to help give the gift of clean water. Millions around the world lack this basic necessity that so many of us take for granted. A one mile donation can go a long way in giving clean water for a whole year. To learn more about The W3 Project, our mission and how you can help out, visit our website.

This is a day of neighbors helping their fellow neighbors; a day of people pulling together for the common good of a stranger. Look around and find a project near you or organize one of your own. Whatever method of volunteer you work you participate in, know that the difference you make in someone’s life will have a lasting impact, not just for them but for you too.

Making a Difference – Donate Miles for Clean Water

At Filtersfast.com our employees are making a statement about our corporate social responsibility for the environment and for the people around the world without access to clean drinking water. As partners of The W3 Project with Wine To Water and TrekDesk, the departments in Filtersfast.com are walking for a cause. We are walking to build a community of humanitarians who walk in the pursuit of health and wellness for everyone with two crucial reasons in mind:

1.)    To help provide clean drinking water to those without access to it through our partnership with Wine To Water

2.)    To raise awareness about the small steps we can take to help decrease the obesity problem in our country through our partnership with TrekDesk Treadmill Desks

We are accomplishing these goals throughout our various departments. Many office personnel are walking daily on their TrekDesk Treadmill Desks while compiling miles to donate to The W3 Project. Members within the Warehouse Department are using pedometers to track and donate the miles they walk each day, while carrying out their daily job responsibilities.

We are also collecting aluminum cans to redeem and donate that money to The W3 Project. This donation will be used to help bring clean drinking water to those who do not have access to it.

If you would like to support The W3 Project, visit www.filtersfast.com/w3 and select “Donate Miles” or “Sponsor Miles.” You can also connect with The W3 Project via Twitter and Facebook.

At Filtersfast.com, we believe in making a difference in the environment and for the people around the world. As partners with the W3 Project, we are implementing our corporate social responsibility to reach those around the world in need of clean drinking water, while bringing awareness to the obesity problem we face in the United States.

Students Donate Miles in the W3 Project World Water Day Challenge

Indian Trail Students Donate Their Miles To Save Lives!

The enthusiasm in the eyes of children when they contribute and accomplish something to help thousands of people around the world, is a sight that will bring you to your humble knees. Many of the students at Indian Trail Elementary School in Indian Trail, North Carolina participated in The W3 Project World Water Day Challenge, in their quest to donate each mile they walked for this special project.

Watching the look of anticipation on the faces of each one of these children, literally brings tears to your eyes. They represented diverse ethnicities, genders, personalities and socio-economic backgrounds, which meant absolutely nothing when it came down to walking for a worthy cause.

Upon completion of walking for the W3 Project, students were awarded certificates and a special bag of goodies for their hard work and dedication by donating their miles to provide clean drinking water to at least one person for an entire year. 3M Filtrete made a generous donation to Indian Trail Elementary School and sponsored every mile that each student walked. The W3 Project includes the partnerships of Filtersfast.com, Wine to Water and TrekDesk. Together, they are building a community of humanitarians walking in the pursuit of health and wellness for everyone.

It’s amazing how these children understood the concept that 1 mile = 1 year of clean drinking water for 1 person, while bringing attention to the obesity problem we face in our society. We want to thank the following people from Indian Trail Elementary School who were instrumental in making this project a remarkable success:

Candice Boatright, Principal

Allison Audet, P.E. Teacher

Jenna Mayhew, PTO President

Teachers: Ms. Feinstein, Ms. Baker, Ms. Dixon, Ms. Landers, Ms. Reese, Ms. Rochfort, Ms. Yalich and Ms. Hamilton

Kelly Ransbottom, Bookkeeper

We would like to again thank 3M Filtrete for their sponsorship and to all of the students who unselfishly donated their miles for such a worthy cause, thank you for a job well done! To the parents and guardians of these students, thank you so much for supporting them. See you next year!

Each year, the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, sponsors an Earth Day Environmental Festival on campus. This is an educational-packed day with representation from various sectors of the college and commercial communities, falling within the categories of sustainability, waste management, environmental awareness and global water issues.

Subsidiaries from Filters Fast LLC, FiltersFast.com and Filters Fast Local Service, exhibited and shared information about water testing, the cost effectiveness of using water hydration stations, eliminating the waste of plastic water bottles that pollute highways and landfills, along with increasing awareness of the global water crisis through our W3 Project with TrekDesk and Wine to Water.

We were deeply touched and literally brought to tears during a conversation by a young lady who is a student attending UNCC. Her name is Anna and she is from Africa. As we discussed our commitment to increase awareness about the global water crisis with our W3 Project, she painted a very real picture of personally experiencing such challenges. This was a very emotional dialogue, but nevertheless, one that touched our hearts and injected us with greater momentum to do everything we can to eradicate our global water crisis and save millions of lives from drinking contaminated water. So often it takes a heart-wrenching story like hers to make us really appreciate how fortunate we are.

Students, administrators and staff from the university strongly represented the turnout for this 20th Annual Earth Day event. We want to thank Devin Hatley, Environmental Educator for the Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling, for inviting Filters Fast to participate in this important community event. The Earth Day Environmental Festival is a free event that is also open to the public. UNCC students volunteered to assist with this event which was held at the CHHS Plaza across from the Student Union.

With an event like the annual UNCC Earth Day event, we are inspired to continue protecting our environment by taking action to learn, teach and share our knowledge with others. Our hats off to the UNCC Office of Waste Reduction and Recycling for a successful event. Keep up the good work by helping to increase our social consciousness to save our environment!

Filters Fast Honors A Special Group of Valentines

On Tuesday February 14, 2012, the subsidiaries of Filters Fast LLC (FiltersFast.com, W3 Project: Work and Walk for Water and Filters Fast Local Service) surprised the teachers and staff of Indian Trail Elementary School, in Indian Trail, North Carolina with “Thank You for Being My Valentine” gifts. The company treasures the importance of what our hardworking teachers and administrators contribute to the growth and development of our children. Often, these hardworking professionals do not hear or receive our gratitude for what they do five days out of the week.

This is a critical time where we find so many of our schools suffering for basic core necessities due to budget cuts for the fiscal year. Many teachers have to use their personal money to provide these basic and much needed items for their students. For Valentine’s Day, Filters Fast wanted to reach out and simply say thank you to the hard working professionals at Indian Trail Elementary School. We hope that at least for one day, we were able to put a smile on their faces and let them know how very special they are to our community and the educational system.

Filters Fast wants to extend a special thank you to the following staff members from Indian Trail Elementary School who were instrumental in helping us to pull off our Valentine’s Day surprise and for working with us to help them with upcoming projects to benefit the school:

Candice Boatright, Principal
Kelly Ransbottom, Bookkeeper
Allison Audet, Physical Education Teacher
