Family Eye Care Month: Are You Seeing Clearly with Allergies?

Posted on August 13, 2012 by Kory Leave a Comment

Frequent eye exams are important, regardless of your age or physical health. During a complete eye exam, your optometrist does more than determine your prescription for contact lenses or eyeglasses. He or she will also check your eyes for common eye diseases, evaluate how your eyes work together and assess your eyes as an indicator of overall health.

There are many reasons you should have your eyes examined on a regular basis. Adults should have their eyes tested to keep their prescriptions current and to check for early signs of eye disease. Eye exams for children play an important role in ensuring normal vision development and academic achievement. Children with undetected vision problems often exhibit trouble with schoolwork. Many times, children do not complain of vision problems, because they don’t know what “normal” vision looks like. If your child is struggling with school work, it is a good idea to have his or her vision tested to rule out any visual impairment.

Another reason for regular checkups is watery eyes. Many do not see watery eyes as a major issue, but experiencing this for a prolonged period of time could be a sign of an underlying condition. Oftentimes, watery eyes are caused by poor indoor air quality resulting from airborne allergens. Fortunately, using the proper indoor air furnace filters can help reduce the airborne allergens that cause watery eyes and improve your overall air quality.

The Filters Fast Trion Air Bear is a compatible AC filter and features a MERV 11 rating. This will help improve allergies that cause watery eyes, itchy throat and sneezing. This filter reduces pollen, dust and other allergens from your indoor air.

The best way to test what is in your indoor air is to use the Indoor Air Quality Test Kit. This will help you discover the issues with your indoor air quality so you will be able to find a solution that fits your needs. To use this product, stick the one-time-use strip near or in your return air duct. Then, place the Bio-Scan 400 sample in the provided manila envelope. Attach postage and mail the envelope to the specified address. Your test results will be emailed to you within 5 days after the lab receives your sample. Once you get your test results back, Filtersfast.com will be able to help you choose the right products to suit your air quality needs.

August is Family Eye Care Month, so this would be a great time to make sure you and your family are not neglecting eye exams. Frequent eye exams will help you see clearly.
