Labor Day 2012 | History

Labor DayAll over the country, we are celebrating Labor Day. But why do we celebrate Labor Day? This special occasion, always the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement that is devoted to the economic and social achievements of the American worker.  The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated in 1885 in New York and has since grown to a nationwide observance. On this day, many will hold cookouts, attend parades or simply relax by enjoying their day off. This day has also become a symbolic end to the summer for many Americans. Whatever your plans are for today, remember to keep in mind the significance of this observation.

Labor Day has a rich history centered on the workers of this country; workers like you who have made this country what it is today. This is a day for you to kick back, relax and enjoy the day.
