National Wear Red Day: Taking A Stand Against Heart Disease

Did you know that cardiovascular disease claims the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year? To raise awareness about this serious issue, the American Heart Association created the Go Red For Women social initiative in 2004. This program is designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health, as well as band together and collectively to wipe out heart disease.

Members of the Filtersfast.com family wore red on National Wear Red Day, to raise awareness about this deadly disease.

In addition, employees had the opportunity to write the names of someone (whether it was a family member or a friend) on a specially designed red heart that was displayed on the “Wall of Hearts”  in a common area of the company. Employees had the opportunity to list these names either an “In Honor Of” or “In Memory Of” heart.

Top Left to Bottom Right: Greg Shore, Steve Abraham, Manish Patel, Joan Ferrara, Jennifer Loomis-Beaver, Alex Hertzog, Hannah McCoy, Kym Moore, Dee Rubina, Gloria Riggle, Kory McNair, Steven Miller

At FiltersFast.com, we were excited to wear red on National Wear Red Day to show our support for the Go Red for Women initiative. Our hearts go out to anyone who lost a loved one while fighting this deadly disease. We encourage everyone to be proactive in monitoring the health of your heart everyday and come together as often as possible to fight cardiovascular disease.

National Wear Red Day: Have A Heart

Heart disease is the number one killer of women. To raise awareness for this concern, the American Heart Association along with the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute created National Wear Red Day. Every year on the first Friday in February, millions of women and men wear red to symbolize their commitance to fight this deadly disease.

One proven way to reduce the risk of heart disease is to drink more water. A six-year study published by the American Journal of Epidemiology found that those who drank more than five glasses of water a day were less likely to die from a heart attack than those who drank less than two glasses per day. The study conclusively proved that water plays a vital part in your heart health.

At FiltersFast.com, we take heart health seriously. With so much at stake, it is important to have access to clean water at all times. The following items will ensure that clean water is always within reach.

The Clear2GO Filtered Vanity Bottle provides you with heart healthy water by reducing 99.9% of waterborne contaminants and easily opens at the touch of a button. This filtered vanity bottle also includes a travel loop for on-the-go convenience, making it great to carry along during physical activities such as hiking and jogging.

The Katadyn Red Splash MyBottle is reliable, easy to operate and reduces unpleasant odors. Specially built for the outdoors, this water bottle gives you the benefit of having filtered water wherever you are. The Katadyn MyBottle meets the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines for the removal of bacteria and other waterborne contaminants.

The Brita Grand Water Pitcher has a capacity to carry up to 10 cups of water. By reducing copper, chlorine and odor, you will have better tasting water in the comfort of your home. This Brita pitcher features a soft-grip handle for comfort and an electronic filter indicator for added convenience.

Water, in addition to regular physical activity, plays an important role in heart health. Be sure to be active whenever possible to reduce risks of heart disease in your own life. As part of our social responsibility, FiltersFast.com employees have chosen to wear red to symbolize our commitment to fight heart disease. We stand by anyone who has fought this battle and encourage everyone to take the steps necessary to reduce the risk of heart disease in your own life.

Join Filters Fast in Celebrating National Wear Red Day

(Image Credit: National Heart Lung and Blood Institute)

According to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, approximately 1.2 million people in the United States have heart attacks. About 42% of heart attacks result in death among men and women in the United States. More people could survive or recover from heart attacks if they received help and treatment faster.

Friday February 3, 2012 is National Wear Red Day®. The employees at Filters Fast will be celebrating this day by wearing red to show our support for women’s heart disease awareness. We invite you to join us in solidarity by wearing “red” on this day for the women in your life (family and friends) who either survived or succumbed to heart disease. Although we recognize this day as a movement for women’s heart disease awareness, since February is observed as American Heart Month, you can still honor a male family member or friend as well.

Because heart disease literally tugs at our heartstrings, we want to further show our support by inviting you to post a photo of you or a group photo of your schoolmates, sports team, book club, Bridge Club, golf partners or co-workers on our Facebook or Google+ page wearing red on Friday February 3rd in support of National Wear Red Day®. Encourage your family and friends to do the same.

Other names associated with “heart attack” includes: Myocardial Infarction (MI), Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI), Acute Coronary Syndrome, Coronary Thrombosis and Coronary Occlusion. Confront heart disease before it attacks you! We look forward to you sharing your National Wear Red Day® celebrations and memories with us!
