As in all cases, get a water analysis to determine your raw water condition. Look for hardness, iron, TDS, Sulfur (if you have rotten egg smell) at least.

How long have you lived there. How old is the house. Had there been any water treatment equipment install (and removed) before you lived there? Do your neighbors have similar problems.

In most cases a softener and an RO will handle typical water concerns.

It might be good to get a test through a certified lab for health issues if you haven't already. They normally check for e. coli and coliform. If that test is positive, then there are several options you can take.
