I just changed my filter a few weeks ago and my indicator light is already telling me I need to change my filter. I thought these filters where supposed to last around 6 months, why is my light on?

I just changed my filter a few weeks ago and my indicator light is already telling me I need to change my filter. I thought these filters where supposed to last around 6 months, why is my light on?

The indicator light in your refrigerator is designed to come on when a pre-set amount of water has passed through your filter. Your refrigerator actually has no way of knowing if a filter is dirty, clean, or ready to be changed. For this reason it is important to reset your refrigerator light each time you change your filter.

On the other hand, if your indicator light is NOT on and the water coming out of your refrigerator has a bad odor you probably need to change your filter.

If you've reset your light and it comes on again in 4 months, you've probably used the amount of pre-determined water, and depending on your water quality, probably need to replace the filter.
