bought a unit from ebay .... did i mess up??

I was looking for a ro unit for the last couple of weeks and my local Culligan guy said he would set me up for $1900 and i was thinking of doing it as we use about four 5 gallon jugs a month and i hate hauling it.
then i looked on ebay and for $130 plus $30 shipping i was able to buy a complete system that has all the stages and parts that the Culligan unit had.
I have plumbing tools and know how so installing will be no problem but i just cant belive that i only paid $185 to my door ..
is this unit crap ???
why was the culligan unit so much??

I have a hard time believing that any normal residential Culligan RO would cost that much let alone a sales rep trying to get that much and expect to sell one.

Culligan ROs are little better that the one you discribed. They do use proprietary parts but have a short warranty and are expected to reject around 82% TSD, which is not admirable.

It sounds like they were pricing a small commercial unit. Do you have model numbers or details on their quote?

then some tax

what should one expect to pay for a good unit??

We do not sell Culligan products so I can't speak to those but I have listed 2 very good RO units that we sell below and neither of them cost as much as you have listed.
