Pre-2009 Maytag refrigerators automatic filter change indicator will activate in 12 mos, but the new filters are only good for six months (almost to the day). You experience significant flow reduction and slower ice making. They changed from 12 month to six month filters in 2009. Even though the life-time capability has been reduced by 50% the cost of the filter is the same.
