While many people worry about outdoor air quality, statistics show that they actually should be more concerned about indoor air quality (IAQ). IAQ is the measure of harmful pollutants discovered within or around your home. The EPA ranks IAQ as one of the top five public health risks.

Air/HVAC filters are an important part of air conditioning systems and are used to clean and purify the air. Air filters trap airborne particles, such as dust, pollen, and other allergens, and can also help reduce odors and improve air quality. Regularly changing your HVAC filters is essential to help keep your air conditioning system working properly and efficiently. It can also help to reduce energy bills and improve the indoor air quality of your home or business.

Air filters are usually found either in your furnace or in a return on your wall or ceiling. How many air filters your home has will depend on the type of system you have and how many floors you have in your home.

Why do you need to change your Air Filter?

Changing air filters regularly can help to reduce the buildup of dirt and debris in your HVAC system, which can lead to more frequent maintenance and repairs. It will also help to improve airflow, reduce allergies and asthma symptoms, and improve the overall efficiency of your system. Regularly changing your air filter can also help to reduce energy costs by ensuring that the system is running as efficiently as possible.

It is recommended that AC filters be changed at least every 1-3 months. How often you install an air filter replacement will depend on how many people are living in your home, how many pets you have, and if anyone in your household suffers from asthma or allergies. As a best practice, check your furnace filters every month and replace the filter when needed.

Remembering what size air filter you need is hard and remembering when to change it is even harder! The Home Filter Club air filter subscription program was created to make remembering these things easier. Once you've found the size filter you need, you can select your order frequency and it will be delivered directly to your door exactly when you need it!

What kind of pollutants are in my home's air?

The pollutants in your home's air can vary depending on the environment. Common air pollutants include dust, smoke, pet dander, mold spores, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and other airborne particles. That's why air filtration is so important! Regularly changing your air filter can help reduce the amount of these pollutants in your home, improving the air quality and your family's health.

The MERV rating system was created to help you find the right air filter for your home. MERV which stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, will help you understand what types of air pollutants the air filter will capture. The higher the MERV value, the more contaminants it will prevent from getting into your HVAC unit. The most recommended MERV ratings for residential homes are MERV 8, MERV 11, and MERV 13.

When selecting a MERV rating, it is important to understand the impact that the MERV will have on the air flow in your home. This is why it's important to make sure that you check to make sure that your Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning System can handle the MERV rating you select. Sometimes if a MERV rating is too high it can create what is called a "pressure drop" and can put a strain on your unit.

How do I find the correct air filter for my house?

There are a variety of air filter sizes available which is why it is extremely important to make sure that you have the correct size filter for your HVAC. There are a couple of different ways you can find out what size filter you need. If you have an existing filter, you might find that the size is printed along the edge of the filter. You can also measure the length, width, and depth of the filter to find the size.

If once you measure your filter, you're having a hard time finding the exact size you need, you can round the number closest to the actual size of your filter. If you are still having trouble finding the air filter size you need, we can make a custom air filter for you!
