This model costs half as much as the other 11 systems I priced: under $50 per year to treat 1000 gallons of water, assuming the unit lasts seven years. The American Plumber WLCS-1000 is comparable. Both have also been independently tested and certified by California's residential water filter certification program. I read web claims that bacteria like to grow on carbon filters (whether carbon block or GAC) however, that doesn't help me choose what water filter to buy, because all 11 of the filters that California certified will remove the contaminants in my water use carbon. One uses UV as well, supposedly to kill any bacteria that could grow in the carbon and sediment. I would like that feature, but it bumps the price up to $193 per year. Instead I'm going to change the filter twice as often as the manufacturer recommends, which will cost me only an extra $20 per year.
