The Vario allows for two modes of filtration: "Fast Flow" and "Longer Life".
"Fast Flow" mode uses the 0.3 micron carbon pleated glassfiber filter to remove waterbourne bacteria and cysts as well as improve the water's taste & odor. In this mode water can travel quickly through the filter by bypassing the ceramic prefilter. This mode works best in areas where the water is mostly free of suspended solids. In "Fast Flow" mode the Vario can produce up to 2 quarts per minute of filtered water.
"Longer Life" mode lengthens the effective life of the pleated filter by first directing water through the ceramic prefilter, which catches a majority of the contaminants so they do not prematurely clog the primary filter. This mode is suggested in areas where water is visably dirty. In "Longer Life" mode the Vario can produce up to 1 quart per minute.
In both modes water is directed through the replaceable Carbon Core, which reduces chemicals, odors, and toxins and keeps the water tasting fresh.
