From the same company that produces Filtrete air filters comes the 8511 Plus Particulate 3M N95 Respirator, which boasts a minimum filtration efficiency of 95% against solid and liquid aerosols not containing oil. It is government approved and NIOSH approved to N95.
Though little is known as to the benefits of wearing masks or respirators to control the spread of pandemic flu and sickness (such as the H1N1 virus, aka Swine Flu), the Center for Disease Control notes that 3M respirators are designed to protect against very small particles, which could contain viruses.
