The Nu Calgon Nickel Safe Ice Maker Cleaning Solution is a citric/phosphoric food grade formulated cleaner designed for removing lime scale deposits from ice machines having nickel-plated or tin-plated evaporators. This lime scale removing solution can also be used in other appliances experiencing scaled-up water such as coffee urns, vending equipment, humidifiers and portable water heaters.

Nu Calgon Nickel Safe Ice Machine Cleaner specifications:

  • 16 fluid ounce container
    Removes lime scale deposits
  • Industry's first nickel-safe product
  • Used for cleaning icemakers every 6 months
  • Formulated citric/phosphoric food-grade cleaner
  • For use in nickel-plated or tin-plated evaporators
  • Follow manufacturer's instructions for safe and effective cleaning
  • Removes deposits from coffee urns, portable heaters, humidifiers and vending equipment

Nu Calgon Ice Maker Cleaner is the industry's first nickel-safe product introduced in collaboration with Manitowoc. This solution mixes to form a green cleaning emulsion to make rinsing easier. Also known as part number WX08X42870, this GE Ice Maker Cleaner comes in a convenient 16 ounce bottle and should be used in compliance with manufacturer's instructions. Your ice machine should be free of ice prior to cleaning.

Nu Calgon Icemaker Cleaning Instructions:

  • Turn refrigeration off.
  • Shut down water supply.
  • Remove existing ice from the machine's bin.
  • Remove water trough, water curtain(s), water distribution tube(s) and any other parts that may be scaled with lime deposits.
  • Mix 3 ounces of Nickel-Safe Ice Machine Cleaner per 1 gallon of warm water in plastic container. Place components in the solution. Soak the components until they are free of deposits. For stubborn, hard to remove deposits, use a soft brush to help the dissolving process. For excessively dirty components, use a stronger solution consisting of up to 16 ounces of Nu Calgon per 1 gallon of water.
  • Use this mixture to clean the storage bin, top, bottom, and side extrusions. Don't forget to clean the other components where there is a buildup of deposits and rinse cleaned areas with fresh water.
Replace clean components and turn on water.
  • According to the manufacturer's instructions, add Nu Calgon Nickel Safe to the water in your ice maker to clean the evaporator and the remaining recirculating water system. If none are available, use 5 fluid ounces of Nickel-Safe cleaner per 1 gallon of water in the machine. For the Manitowoc machines, use 2 fluid ounces in the 100, 200, 400 and 600 Series. Use 3 fluid ounces in the 800, 1100 and 1200 Series. Use 4 fluid ounces in the 1700 Series.
  • Allow the cleaning process to circulate for approximately 10 minutes. Solution recirculation may take longer than 10 minutes for removing heavier lime scale deposits. Check to make sure that all weep holes and distribution channels are clear.
  • Drain the nickel-safe cleaning solution and flush with fresh water for a minimum of 30 seconds. After flushing, plug the drain.
  • Use Nu-Calgon IMS-II (4211-34) to sanitize ice machine after cleaning or when evaporator is free of ice.
  • Thoroughly rinse your ice bin with clean water after all components are cleaned.
  • Return machine to service.
  • Discard first batch of ice.

Sanitizing Instructions:

  • Turn off refrigeration, but keep the water pump on.
  • Add 1/4 ounce of IMS-II ice machine sanitizer per 1 gallon of recirculating water. Allow to circulate a minimum of 1 minute.
  • Drain water and allow fresh water to flush through for a minimum of 30 seconds. Reinstall drain plug after flushing is complete.
  • Wash all surfaces in contact with ice, bins and other surfaces requiring sanitizing with a solution of 1 ounce of sanitizer and up to 4 gallons of water. Rinse thoroughly with fresh water after sanitizing is complete.
  • Return machine to service.
  • Discard first batch of ice.
