I have a well so there is no chlorine issue but it does a good job of removing rust and rotten egg odor. I am not sure how many gals before each filter change, I just change it when I notice a drop in water pressure which is about every 4 months.

It does reduce bad taste and odor from chlorine and other chemicals in my drinking water and i have been using it exclusively for about ten years with no problems..
