MERV 16 Air Filters Profile:

The quality of the air you breathe is important to your overall wellness. That’s why when it comes to choosing the right MERV rating for your home, you want to make sure that you’re making the best choice for you and your family. The Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value, also known as MERV rating, indicates what size particles a filter can capture. Here’s an easy way to remember it: the higher the MERV rating, the smaller the particle size it captures.

What is a MERV 16 rating?

A filter with a MERV rating of 16 is tightly constructed of high-quality filter media and is at least 90% effective at blocking pollen, dust, pet dander, mold spores, dust mites, virus-carrying particles, bacteria, cooking oils, and other allergens as small as 0.3 microns. Filters with a MERV 16 rating are usually used in more controlled environments like hospitals and labs. However, with the right system requirements, a MERV 16 is recommended in homes where those who suffer from respiratory issues like asthma reside. Before installing a MERV 16 filter in your home or business, consult a HVAC professional.

Interested in learning more how you can have a MERV 16 filter in your home? We dive deeper on the Filtered Files.

MERV 16 Air Filter Size:

MERV 16 air filters are available for purchase but can be hard to find. Ensuring that you have the correct size air filter is important. If a filter is too large, you will not be able to install it properly, and if it is too small, it can allow harmful airborne contaminants to get into your home's air and system. DO NOT cut an air filter to fit. This can cause a multitude of problems for your air system.

Airflow:

While MERV 16 air filters will reduce more particles in the air, they will also reduce the amount of airflow. Minimizing airflow can put a strain on your furnace and HVAC system, which can lead to costly system repair and high energy costs. If you’re not sure what MERV rating your HVAC system is rated to handle, we recommend asking a professional.

Maintenance:

While selecting the right air filter for your home or business is important, changing it regularly is just as important. It is recommended that you change your AC filter every 1-3 months for the best results.
