GE brand refrigerator water filters (RPWFE / XWFE)

Some GE refrigerator filters (GE RPWFE and GE XWFE) contain an RFID chip, which is required by the refrigerators that use these filters to authenticate that a genuine GE product is being used. For this reason, third-party replacements such as the FF21130 and PH21140 will not work as replacements for these filters (they will work as replacements for the prior versions of these filters, RPWF and XWF respectively,  in refrigerators that do not require the RFID chip, but most newer models of GE refrigerators will need the updated filters).

How do I flush my water filter?

To flush your water filter:

Grab a large container that fits in the water dispenser of the refrigerator (this can be a large measuring cup, a large drinking cup or anything big enough that conveniently and comfortably fits into the dispenser)

Position the container in the water dispenser and press in to begin dispensing water and fill the container

The number of times you will need to fill the container depends on the type of container you are using. For example, if you are using a 4-cup measuring cup, you will need to fill it four times to make 1 gallon. Remember: four cups equal one quart and four quarts equal one gallon.

Discard the water into the sink. You can reserve the water for watering any plants (tiny carbon bits will not harm the plants)

Repeat steps 1-3 until you have flushed 3-5 gallons of water

For specific directions to flush your refrigerator water filter, check the owner&rsquo s manual. Instructions can vary slightly depending on the type of filter you have, so the owner&rsquo s manual will be the safest way to ensure all installation and set-up processes are followed correctly.

Why won't my water filter fit?

Occasionally a filter will not fit into the filter slot right away. You may try it several times before the filter finds its slot and raises itself into position.

How come the wires that come with the icemaker won’t fit my refrigerator?

There are several hundred thousand model numbers of freezers, and at least 2000 part numbers for icemakers. We have options to replace about 75% of the icemakers from the early 1970&rsquo s to date. The basic difference between models is the hardware, and harnesses included in the kit.

There is huge glob of ice in the bin, what causes this?

Check to see if the icemaker is level, both front and back, and left to right. If the icemaker is not level, water will overfill into the bin.

The icemaker arm is moving up & down automatically, but no water is coming in, what is wrong?

Check to see if the water line is kinked.

  • If water flow to the door is also reduced, remove the water filter, if flow increases, replace the filter.
  • Check the fill tube coming into the freezer, if there is ice build-up, thaw the tube, and lower the set temperature.
  • If the fill tube is dripping, replace the water valve.
Why is my reverse osmosis water milky?

If you notice milky colored water that is an indication that there is air in the system. Air in the system is a normal occurrence with initial startup of the RO system. This milky look will disappear during normal use within 1 to 2 weeks.

What is the difference between a MERV, MPR, and an FPR rating?

With so many options to choose from when it comes to the quality of air in your home, it can be tough to make the most sensible choice that will work best for you. Click here to learn about each one and what they mean.

I installed my icemaker, why is it not making ice?

The icemaker must cool down to 10° F (-12° C) before the control module will allow water to come into the icemaker. It may require several hours for the icemaker to chill down to 10° F (12° C). The icemaker will add 140cc&rsquo s of water for about 8 seconds, then allow time for the cubes to freeze.

The icemaker makes lots of ice, but it won’t shut off, what is going on?

If the icemaker shut-off arm is engaged, and it will not shut off, replace the icemaker.

Why are my ice cubes coming out hollow?

A kinked or bent refrigerator water line will cause the water to flow slowly to the water inlet valve. Also, be sure your fridge water filter is replaced every 6 months as a clogged fridge water filter can cause low water flow leading to hollow ice cubes.

How often should I replace my refrigerator water filter?

Typically, refrigerator filters need to be replaced every 6 months or 500 gallons of water, whichever comes first. If you have harsh tap water at your house, you may need to replace your filters more often. You may also want to replace the filter if you experience a decrease in water pressure or a bad taste or odor such as chlorine.

Why is water not dispensing after I change the filter?

If water or ice is not dispensing, the new water filter you installed may not be fully seated, snapped into place, or screwed into the filter housing. If the filter is not fully threaded/connected into the housing, low flow or a trickle can occur. Make sure you have the filter tightened properly. Remove the filter completely and reinstall making sure it is tight. Try also reinstalling with a bit more pressure than normal.

If you feel that it is, and you' re still having issues, it could be the water valve leading to the refrigerator. To check, reinstall the old filter to see if it works.

What is the country of origin for a product?

What is the difference between Nominal size and Actual size?

This has become an industry standard that most air filter companies now use both of these measurements. Did you know: Filter measurements are usually rounded up to the nearest number?

Actual measurement: The measurement you get when you measure the filter yourself (Usually will include ¾ and ½ sizes).

Nominal measurement: The measurement printed on the side of the filter (Rounded up to the nearest number).

Can&rsquo t find the size you need? We&rsquo ll make them custom for you!

My refrigerator filter is not removing TDS.

Refrigerator filters are not rated for TDS reduction. They are not capable of removing a significant amount of the overall dissolved solids, except in the cases of specific contaminants such as lead and mercury. The TDS removal process usually requires a reverse osmosis system or a specialty filter to remove the dissolved minerals.

Do you carry 3M Filtrete Filters?

Yes, we do carry a variety of 3M Filtrete filters. Please click here to view our selection.

What happens if I do not replace my water filter?

Refrigerator water filters trap large contaminants and prevent them from getting into your drinking water. If a filter is not replaced according to the recommended frequency, these impurities can start to build up and get into your drinking water, which can lead to several health issues. Most filters need to be replaced every 6 to 12 months.

Why I am not getting any ice after installing my new filter?

Is your fridge having trouble dispensing ice after installing your new fridge filter? You may need to reset your ice maker.

Turn the switch to your ice maker off then unplug the refrigerator and leave it unplugged for 5 minutes.

Turn the switch back on when you plug the refrigerator back in, and the ice maker should begin working.
