Iron problems

My water is terrible. The previous owners installed a softener but it doesn't do a good job. My water is yellowish from the tap and when boiled gets an orangish foam. If water is just left to settle it gets a rusty sediment in the bottom. Fixtures and clothes become discolored. I need to do something but don't know which kind of system to look in to.

It seems like you could look at a few different options such as a whole house filter and a Reverse Osmosis filter. Have you conducted a water test to see what other issues may also be causing the problems with water quality?
